Rural & Remote Program
Annual residential workshop
Our residential workshop is an intensive week of seminars and therapy sessions for parents and children and is held in January. Each year, families arrive on Sunday to settle into accommodation and attend a late afternoon seminar to meet and hear from other parents of children with hearing loss. The next five days (and some evenings) are filled with seminars, therapy sessions and discussions. Children attend four therapy sessions with their parents.
At the end of the workshop, parents leave with a great deal of information about hearing loss, speech and language and how to use the principles of Auditory-Verbal Therapy. In addition they will receive a report from their therapist with goals to work toward over the coming months. It is a wonderful opportunity for families in isolated areas to meet other parents and share ideas, strategies and stories.
Register your interest to attend by calling 1800 020 030.
NEWSFLASH! Rescheduled due to public demand for "Workshops that offer more"!
Following feedback from families interested in the Newcastle workshop we have decided to rescheduled our Workshop program and incorporate the Newcastle workshops into our 2011 program.
The schedule will include our week-long annual residential workshop in late January in Sydney, followed by two shorter intensive workshops in March and May in Newcastle. Families can attend these as follow-up workshops to build on skills already acquired and advanced modules will be incorporated for families requiring this service. Families are also welcome to attend any one of the workshops as a one-off.
We aim to help families to establish goals for the year ahead for their child and the benefit of having three workshops during the first six months of the year will provide continuity and follow-up.
If you have any families who would benefit from attending one or more of these workshops, please contact Sharon Hill, Co-ordinator Families and Centres, on 9114 0880 or via email, sharon.hill@shepherdcentre.com.au.
Our “2011 workshop timetable” as well as detailed brochures will be available in September 2010.
