Bequests

A bequest or legacy in your Will to benefit The Shepherd Centre is an excellent way to make a gift that will change the lives of  children and help them to take their place in a hearing world.

When you place The Shepherd Centre in your Will, or if you intend to, we suggest that you let us know so that we can keep you up to date with the progress of the children in our care.

Making a Will

Having a valid Will is an important personal step – it means that your final wishes can be carried out, without any need for the government to determine who benefits from your estate. A Will helps give peace of mind to you, and your family.

A Will is a precise legal document that determines the disbursement of your property in the way you wish. To be sure that your assets are distributed the way you wish, always seek professional help to prepare, or modify your Will.

Leaving a bequest

A bequest is when you make a gift to a named person or organisation in your Will.

There are different types of bequests – you can leave a percentage of your estate, specific donation amounts, something specific such as a house or you can leave the residual of your estate after giving specific gifts to individuals or organisations.

How will my bequest make a difference?

Bequests form a vital part of our income at The Shepherd Centre. Through Bequests we can teach deaf children to listen, and speak. This is a wonderful outcome and enables our children to reach their fullest potential.

How can I leave something to charity and look after my family at the same time?

The Shepherd Centre is an organisation primarily about chidlren and families. We strongly encourage our bequestors to ensure that they look after their family first in their Will. Many people do this by leaving a portion of their estate to The Shepherd Centre and the larger proportion to their family.

We suggest you talk over your wishes with your family and seek a professional such as a lawyer or trustee company to prepare, or update, your Will.    We can provide a list of solicitors and trustee companies who may be able to help you.
